DAEJEON — Unionized railway workers have postponed their planned strike as a temporary agreement regarding bonus payments was reached between the union and the government, according to union officials on Tuesday.
The Korean Railway Workers' Union had intended to initiate a strike on Tuesday, but the plan was abandoned following the overnight agreement, union representatives stated.
As a result, train services operated normally on Tuesday, as confirmed by the state railway operator.
The government has reportedly proposed a phased approach to increase performance bonus payments, suggesting a payout of 90 percent of base salary next year and 100 percent by 2027.
The union had been advocating for performance bonuses to be set at 100 percent of base pay, aligning with the standards of other public institutions.
