Heavy snow advisories were issued for Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi Province, and parts of Gangwon Province on Thursday, resulting in significant traffic congestion in central Seoul.
In response to the snowfall, the Seoul metropolitan government announced an increase of 20 subway runs during the morning rush hour on Friday to alleviate traffic congestion caused by the previous night's heavy snowfall.
The capital experienced its first snow of the season on Thursday evening, with snowfall rates exceeding 5 centimeters per hour, leading to the issuance of an emergency disaster alert.
In addition to the increased subway services, the government extended morning peak bus dispatch hours by 30 minutes to further assist commuters.
All road closures resulting from the snowfall were lifted overnight.
