Actor Kang Tae-oh has delivered a career-defining performance in the historical drama “Moon River,” captivating both domestic and global audiences. This marks his return to the genre after a six-year hiatus.
The MBC Friday–Saturday series concluded on December 20, achieving a nationwide viewership rating of 6.8 percent, the highest for the show, according to Nielsen Korea. The narrative follows Crown Prince Lee Gang, portrayed by Kang, and itinerant merchant Park Dali, played by Kim Se-jeong, whose souls switch bodies, leading to a perilous royal survival story intertwined with romance. The series has been noted for its unique blend of traditional historical elements and a soul-switching premise, showcasing strong chemistry between the lead actors.
In an interview, Kang expressed the pressure he felt returning to a historical drama after a long break, stating, “I felt I needed to show better acting than before, and I wanted to meet the expectations of fans.”
The drama also gained significant international traction, particularly in Indonesia and Thailand, while also attracting viewers from the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
