Hanyang University opened its first Malaysia-based international alumni association in Kuala Lumpur on Nov. 29, marking a significant step in the institution's efforts to establish a broader network of overseas graduates.
This association is the first of its kind established by a Korean university in Malaysia, following the earlier formation of a similar group in China. This development reflects a more systematic approach to attracting international students and enhancing the university's global alumni relations.
The launch event was attended by approximately 140 individuals, including the university's president, various officials, Malaysian graduates of Hanyang, Korean alumni residing in Malaysia, and current students.
Since the 1980s, Hanyang University has successfully attracted numerous Malaysian students through governmental and institutional scholarship programs. Over the past thirty years, more than 400 Malaysian students have graduated from the university.
The significance of the new alumni association lies in its ability to demonstrate that decades of international collaboration have led to a sustainable and locally anchored network.
The association plans to organize regular gatherings, job-related lectures, mentoring programs, and opportunities for campus visits to strengthen connections among members. Additionally, it aims to share job information in collaboration with alumni-run businesses and develop joint projects with local institutions to enhance the university's international standing.
Furthermore, the association intends to pursue scholarship opportunities and social initiatives that benefit the local community.
During the launch event, the university announced a new scholarship program offering 30 to 50 percent tuition reductions for undergraduate freshmen who are children of international alumni.
Hanyang University plans to expand these initiatives to foster a closer-knit global community among its overseas alumni.
한양대학교는 11월 29일 말레이시아 쿠알라룸푸르에서 첫 번째 말레이시아 기반 국제 동문회를 개설하여 대학의 해외 졸업생 네트워크 구축에 있어 새로운 단계를 알렸습니다.
이 동문회는 말레이시아에서 설립된 첫 번째 한국 대학의 조직입니다.
이번 조치는 중국에서의 국제 동문회 설립 이후 진행된 것으로, 국제 학생 모집 및 글로벌 동문 네트워크 강화를 위한 보다 체계적인 접근 방식을 신호합니다.
행사에는 한양대학교 이기정 총장과 대학 관계자, 한양대 졸업생 말레이시아인, 쿠알라룸푸르 거주 한국 동문 및 현재 재학생 등 약 140명이 참석했습니다.
1980년대 이후로 이 대학은 정부 장학금 프로그램 및 자체 장학금 제공을 통해 꾸준히 말레이시아의 우수 학생들을 유치해 왔습니다. 지난 30년 동안 400명 이상의 말레이시아 학생들이 이 대학을 졸업했습니다.
대학교는 이번 설립의 중요성을 강조하며, 수십 년간의 국제 교류가 지속 가능한 지역 기반 네트워크로 발전했음을 보여준다고 밝혔습니다.
새로운 동문회는 정기적인 모임, 직무 관련 강연, 멘토링 프로그램 및 캠퍼스 방문 프로그램을 개최하여 회원 간의 유대감을 강화할 계획입니다.
또한, 동문들이 운영하는 기업과 협력하여 구직 정보를 공유하고 지역 기관과의 협력 프로젝트를 개발하여 대학의 국제 경쟁력을 강화할 예정입니다. 나아가 지역 사회에 혜택을 주는 장학 프로그램 및 사회 기여 활동을 추진할 계획입니다.
행사 중에 대학은 국제 동문 자녀인 신입생에게 30%에서 50%까지 학비를 감면하는 새로운 장학금을 소개했습니다.
대학 측은 한양대학교에서 학습한 해외 동문들이 하나의 글로벌 커뮤니티로 더욱 밀접하게 연결될 수 있도록 프로그램을 계속 확대해 나갈 것이라고 전했습니다.
