South Korea's telecommunications provider LG Uplus reported a data leak involving call information from customers using its AI-based call app, ixi-O, earlier this week.
The company stated that a cache configuration error led to the temporary exposure of call data from 36 customers, which included users' phone numbers and conversation content, to 101 other users during a service update.
LG Uplus notified the Personal Information Protection Commission about the incident on Saturday at 9 a.m. The data leak occurred between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10:59 a.m. the following day, revealing call information of existing users to those who had newly downloaded or re-downloaded the app.
Importantly, the company clarified that no sensitive information, such as users' resident registration numbers or financial data, was compromised, emphasizing that the incident was unrelated to hacking.
Upon discovering the data leak at 10 a.m. Wednesday, LG Uplus initiated an investigation into the cause and implemented measures to prevent further exposure of users' call information. Affected users were notified via text and phone calls.
In a statement, the company expressed its sincere apologies for any concern and inconvenience caused, and affirmed its commitment to cooperating with any follow-up investigations by authorities.

회사 측은 주민등록번호나 금융 데이터와 같은 민감한 정보는 유출되지 않았으며, 이 사건은 "해킹과는 무관하다"고 강조했다.
통신사는 수요일 오전 10시에 데이터 유출 사실을 인지한 즉시 원인 조사에 착수했다고 밝혔다.
또한, 사용자 통화 정보가 더 이상 다른 사용자에게 노출되지 않도록 조치를 완료했으며, 영향을 받은 사용자에게는 문자 및 전화로 알렸다.
회사는 "우려와 불편을 끼쳐 드린 것에 대해 진심으로 사과드립니다"라고 말했다. "우리는 관계 당국의 후속 조사에 적극 참여할 것입니다."
