American pitcher Chris Flexen has rejoined the Doosan Bears after spending the past five seasons in the United States. The Bears announced on Thursday that they have signed the right-hander to a one-year deal worth $1 million.
Flexen, 31, previously pitched for the Bears in 2020, achieving an 8-4 record with a 3.01 ERA over 116 2/3 innings in 21 starts. He recorded 132 strikeouts against 30 walks that season, despite missing about two months due to a foot injury. He concluded the year strongly, going 4-0 with a 0.85 ERA over five starts in October.
During the postseason, Flexen was the Bears' top starter, helping the team reach the Korean Series after winning the first two rounds before losing to the NC Dinos in six games. He became the first Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) pitcher to achieve 10 or more strikeouts in consecutive postseason games and was voted the MVP of the penultimate round.
Before returning to the KBO, Flexen played for the New York Mets for three years. After his season with the Bears, he returned to the U.S. and pitched for the Seattle Mariners from 2021 to 2023, leading the team in 2021 with 14 wins and a 3.61 ERA. However, he struggled to replicate that success in subsequent seasons.
In July 2023, Flexen was traded back to the Mets but was released without making an appearance. He was subsequently signed by the Colorado Rockies, where he made a dozen starts, and later played for the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs before being released in August.
Throughout his major league career, Flexen has a record of 35-50 with a 4.83 ERA in 174 games, including 111 starts. He will replace Cole Irvin in the Bears' rotation.
Additionally, the Bears have re-signed left-hander Zach Logue for his second KBO season on a one-year deal worth $1.1 million. Logue finished the previous season with a 10-8 record and a 2.81 ERA in 30 games, being the only pitcher on the team to win at least 10 games.
The 29-year-old Logue improved as the season progressed, posting the third-best ERA in the league during the second half at 2.14. The Bears have filled their Asian quota with Japanese pitcher Ichiro Tamura and are currently seeking to sign a foreign-born hitter after deciding not to retain American outfielder Jake Cave.
KBO teams are allowed to sign a maximum of two pitchers and one position player from overseas, with an Asian quota place becoming available starting in the 2026 season.
