Authorities on Tuesday began a joint forensic investigation into a boiler tower collapse at a power plant in Ulsan that claimed seven lives.
The investigation team, which includes officials from local police, the National Forensic Service, the labor ministry, and other agencies, will analyze debris from the collapse to uncover details related to the Nov. 6 incident.
A total of nine workers were initially trapped when the 63-meter boiler tower collapsed at a thermal power plant operated by a state-run utility in the southeastern city of Ulsan. Two workers managed to escape with injuries, while the remaining seven were later found deceased.
The investigation is set to focus on parts of the tower that were weakened as part of demolition preparations following 40 years of use, which ended in 2021.
The police and the labor ministry intend to integrate the investigation findings with testimonies from officials and construction-related documents to ascertain the cause of the accident and any potential legal violations.
