Adoptees Express Serious Concerns About State Intervention in Adoption System

Members of an adoptee advocacy group have expressed significant concerns regarding a proposed state takeover of the adoption system. The rally took place near a temporary storage facility for adoption records in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on July 23.

Advocates argue that the state’s involvement could undermine the rights and needs of adoptees, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a system that prioritizes their well-being and access to information about their origins.

The group is calling for transparency and accountability in the adoption process, urging that any changes to the system should involve input from adoptees themselves.

Concerns have been raised about the potential implications of the takeover, including the fear that it may lead to a loss of personal agency for adoptees and a lack of consideration for their unique experiences.

As discussions continue, the advocacy group remains committed to ensuring that the voices of adoptees are heard and that their rights are protected in any future reforms to the adoption system.
