With Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf set to make its Korea debut this week, homegrown golfer Jang Yu-bin aims to overcome his season-long slump in front of supportive crowds.
The breakaway tour, financed by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, will hold LIV Golf Korea from Friday to Sunday at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Incheon, just west of Seoul.
LIV Golf features 13 teams of four players each, competing for a total prize purse of $25 million at each 54-hole tournament, which includes $20 million for individual players and $5 million for team distributions.
Jang, who is the 2024 KPGA Korean Tour Player of the Year, withdrew from the PGA Tour's qualifying tournament to join LIV Golf's Iron Heads Golf Club last December, making him the first Korean national to participate in LIV Golf. The Iron Heads GC is captained by Korean American Kevin Na and includes Korean-born Kiwi Danny Lee.
Despite high expectations entering the 2025 season, Jang has faced challenges on the LIV tour, recording finishes of 49th, 23rd, 40th, 41st, and 29th places before finishing last in Mexico last week.

LIV 골프는 팀당 4명의 선수로 구성된 13개 팀이 참가하며, 각 54홀 대회에서 총 2,500만 달러의 상금을 놓고 경쟁한다. 이중 개인 선수에게는 2천만 달러가, 팀에는 500만 달러가 분배된다.
2024 KPGA 한국 투어 올해의 선수로 선정된 장유빈은 작년 12월 PGA 투어의 예선 대회에서 탈락하고 LIV 골프의 아이언 헤드 골프 클럽에 합류, LIV 골프에서 첫 한국 선수가 되었다. 아이언 헤드 GC는 한국계 미국인 케빈 나가 팀장을 맡고 있으며, 한국 태생인 뉴질랜드 선수 대니 리도 함께하고 있다.
2025 시즌을 앞두고 높은 기대를 받았던 장유빈은 LIV 투어에서 지금까지 부진한 성적을 보이고 있다. 그는 멕시코에서 열린 대회에서 최하위로 마무리하기 전, 49위, 23위, 40위, 41위, 29위의 순위를 기록했다.
