Yongin, located on the southern outskirts of Seoul, will host the East Asian men's football tournament this summer, as announced by city officials on Tuesday.
The Yongin Mireu Stadium, situated approximately 40 kilometers south of the capital, will serve as the venue for the East Asian Football Federation E-1 Football Championship, scheduled for July 7 to 16. The host nation, Korea, will compete against Japan, China, and Hong Kong.
In conjunction with the men's tournament, Korea will also hold the women's E-1 championship, although the venue for this competition has yet to be determined.
This marks the first E-1 tournament in Korea since the southeastern city of Busan hosted it in 2019. Yongin Mireu Stadium, which has a capacity of around 37,000, previously served as an alternate venue for Korea's World Cup qualifying match against Iraq in October 2024, after the match was relocated from Seoul World Cup Stadium due to poor pitch conditions.
Additionally, on June 5, Yongin Mireu will host a friendly match between the Korean men's under-22 national team and Australia.
서울 남쪽 외곽에 위치한 용인이 올해 여름 동아시아 남자 축구 대회의 개최지로 선정되었다고 시 관계자들이 화요일 발표했다.
이번 대회는 7월 7일부터 16일까지 열리며, 용인에 위치한 용인 미르 스타디움에서 진행될 예정이다. 한국은 일본, 중국, 홍콩과 맞붙게 된다.
한국은 동시에 여성 E-1 챔피언십도 개최하지만, 해당 대회의 장소는 아직 결정되지 않았다.
이번 E-1 대회는 2019년 부산에서 열린 이후 한국에서 처음으로 열리는 대회이다.
용인 미르 스타디움은 약 37,000명의 수용 능력을 갖추고 있으며, 2024년 10월 이라크와의 월드컵 예선 경기를 위해 서울 월드컵 경기장에서 이전된 대체 장소로 이용되었다.
또한 6월 5일에는 용인 미르 스타디움에서 한국 남자 U-22 국가대표팀과 호주와의 친선 경기가 열릴 예정이다.
