Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate for the liberal Democratic Party of Korea (DPK), launched his election campaign committee on Wednesday, unveiling a leadership team that includes conservative figures and members of party factions that have previously been critical of him. This move aims to bridge internal divisions ahead of the upcoming presidential race on June 3.
Notable appointments within the campaign team include former Environment Minister Yoon Yeo-joon, a respected conservative elder, and former lawmaker Park Yong-jin, who had been at the center of a controversy regarding the exclusion of anti-Lee faction members in past nominations. Their inclusion serves as a symbolic demonstration of Lee's commitment to promoting party unity.
Additionally, former South Gyeongsang Province Governor Kim Kyung-soo and ex-Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, both recognized as significant anti-Lee figures, have joined the committee as co-chairs. Kwon Oh-eul, a former conservative lawmaker associated with centrist politician Yoo Seong-min, is also expected to participate in the campaign. Furthermore, DPK floor leader Rep. Park Chan-dae will serve in a key role within the committee.
