<p>Go Woo-suk made his Major League Baseball debut for the Minnesota Twins 2 1/2 years after signing his first U.S. contract. He appeared as a reliever in the ninth inning of a 5-2 loss to the Cleveland Guardians at Target Field.</p>
<p>Wearing No. 1, Go entered with the Twins trailing 4-2 and recorded the first out by grounding out Daniel Schneemann to first base. He then surrendered a solo homer to Patrick Bailey, who hit a 103.1 mph, 39-degree-launch-angle slider 384 feet into the right-field seats. Go recovered to strike out Steven Kwan on a 3-2 splitter and induce a groundout from Travis Bazzana to end his inning.</p>
<p>The Twins did not rally in the bottom of the ninth, and Go did not factor into the decision. He had joined the Twins after being traded from the Detroit Tigers earlier in the week.</p>
<p>Go previously left the Korea Baseball Organization’s LG Twins to sign with the San Diego Padres in January 2024, after leading the KBO with 139 saves from 2019 to 2023. He later moved to the Miami Marlins organization in May 2024, reaching Triple-A, and was released in June 2025. The Detroit Tigers acquired him on a minor league deal that month, and he spent the rest of 2025 in Triple-A before re-signing with the Tigers on another minor league deal in December.</p>
<p>Go represented South Korea at the World Baseball Classic in March and posted a 2.60 ERA in 27 2/3 innings over 19 Triple-A appearances before the trade to Minnesota. He rejected an offer from LG to remain in Korea in May to pursue MLB opportunities.</p>
<p>The Twins are seeking bullpen help, as they rank last in the majors in bullpen ERA at 5.28. Go and his brother-in-law, Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants, are the only two active South Korean players in MLB.</p>

고우석의 첫 등판은 깔끔하지 않았다. 남한의 오른손 투수는 미네소타가 텍사스필드에서 열리는 토요 다툼에서 허용한 상대 팀의 5-2 패배 속에서 홈런을 허용했다.
저지 번호 1번을 달고 마운드에 오른 고우석은 9회 1사부터 등판해 30번째 한국출신 MLB 선수로 기록됐다. 그는 디트로이트 타이거스의 트레이드를 통해 트윈스에 합류했다.
고우석은 1루수 로이스 루이스에게 프리패스트로 1루로 내리쳤던 다니엘 슈네만의 타구를 처리해 첫 아웃을 기록했다. 그러나 패트릭 베일리의 슬라이더를 가운데 쪽으로 헛스윙으로 내주며 우측 펜스까지 날아간 솔로 홈런을 맞았다.
베일리의 타구는 시속 103.1마일(약 165.6km/h), 발사각도 39도였다.
이후 고우석은 스티븐 콕을 3-2 스트라이크로 삼진 등으로 제압했고, 10구의 대결 끝에 트래비스 바자나를 루이스에게 그라운드 아웃으로 처리하며 첫 MLB 이닝을 마무리했다.
트윈스는 9회 막판 반격에 실패했고, 고우석은 승리를 기록하지 못했다.
고우석은 2019년부터 2023년까지 KBO에서 139세이브로 리그를 이끌며 LG 트윈스에서 활약하던 선수로, 2024년 1월 샌디에이고 파드리스와 계약한 뒤 MLB 도전을 이어갔다가 마이애미 말린스, 디트로이트를 거쳐 최근 트윈스에 합류했다.
말린스에서 트리플A까지 진출했고 2025년 6월에는 방출되었으며, 같은 달 디트로이트가 미니멈 계약으로 영입했다. 2025년 남은 기간을 트리플A에서 14경기 4.29ERA로 마무리했고, 11월에 자유계약선수(FREE AGENT)로 풀려나며 12월에 다시 트윈스와 마이너 계약을 체결했다.
고우석은 3월 월드 베이스볼 클래식에서 한국 대표로 출전했고, 마이너리그에서의 활약으로 빅리그 진입의 발판을 마련했다.
최근 트윈스는 불펜 보강이 필요한 상황으로, 팀의 30개 MLB 구단 중 불펜 평균자책점(ERA)에서 최저 수치를 기록하고 있다.
고우석과 그의 형제인 부인 이승호의 이모가 현재 MLB에서 활약 중인 유일한 두 한국 선수다.
