<p>The agency representing Korean singer and actor IU has filed a discovery request in a U.S. federal court to obtain identifying information from Meta regarding a Threads user. The move is part of a broader effort to address malicious posts and misinformation online as part of an ongoing defamation case in Korea. </p>

<p>EDAM Entertainment, IU’s agency, said it submitted the application to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to identify the person behind a Threads account involved in the case. The requested information is sought to proceed with the defamation lawsuit in Korea. </p>

<p>The agency alleges that 52 posts published between March and October of the previous year contained false statements, including plagiarism accusations and other claims described as false. The posts allegedly made false assertions about IU’s activities abroad, misrepresented her overseas achievements, and included allegations of manipulating public opinion and exploiting a deceased person for publicity. They also connected national disasters to song lyrics. </p>

<p>소속사는 unidentified Threads 사용자로 지목된 인물이 2022년 3월부터 10월 사이에 52개의 게시물을 올렸으나 그중 다수가 허위 주장이라고 주장했다. 게시물에는 표절 의혹과 다른 허위 주장들이 포함되어 있었고, 소속사는 이를 사실로 보도했다.</p>
<p>신청서에 따르면 해당 게시물은 중국 관련 허위 진술, 아이유의 해외 업적에 대한 왜곡된 표현, 여론 조작 및 고인의 명예를 이용한 홍보 의혹, 재난과 노래 가사를 연계한 내용 등을 포함했다.</p>
<p>한국 소송의 목적은 특정 Threads 사용자의 신원 확인 및 해당 게시물의 진위를 다루는 데 필요한 정보를 확보하는 것이다.</p>
