<br><hr><br>로마 — 역사적인 포로 이탈리코(Foro Italico) 단지는 이번 주말 전 세계 태권도의 거대 행사장으로 탈바꿈했다. 유럽 최대의 학생 태권도 대회인 Kim and Liù 대회와 국제 그랑프리(Grand Prix) 엘리트 대회가 동시에 열리고 있다.
Kim and Liù 대회에는 유럽 전역에서 6세에서 11세 사이의 약 2,000명의 어린 선수들이 참가했다. 이 대회는 약 20년 전 이탈리아 태권도 연맹이 만든 교육 만화의 두 허구 인물의 이름을 따서 명명되었으며, 기술 형식 경기와 연령별 겨루기를 기반으로 한 교육 활동을 결합한 몰입형 청소년 스포츠 축제로 운영된다.
이번 대회는 그 전통을 이어가며, 대회가 단순한 기본 스포츠 축제가 아니라 이탈리아 국가대표팀의 핵심 배양 기관으로 자리매김하고 있다. 이전 대회에서 현재의 스포츠 황제들인 올림픽 메달리스트와 세계 챔피언 등이 첫 경쟁의 발판을 마련했다.
올해의 주제인 "Taekwondo to the Future!" 아래, 대회는 청소년 para 태권도 카테고리를 확대하고 등록비를 전면 면제하는 등 차세대 챔피언들이 누구나 참가할 수 있도록 접근성을 높이고 있다.
또한 같은 시간대에 열리는 로마 2026 세계 태권도 그랑프리와의 약 30m 거리 배치로, 대회는 그라운드레벨과 엘리트 레벨을 직접적으로 연결하고 있다. 이 근접성은 이탈리아 태권도의 차세대 대표 선수들이 올림픽 및 패럴림픽 선수들의 기술과 준비를 직접 배우고 연구할 수 있게 한다.
