Joint Press Corps</p></div></div><p class="editor-p"><span>A Seoul court is scheduled to deliver a verdict this week on former first lady Kim Keon Hee, who has been indicted on charges related to receiving luxury gifts in exchange for job appointments and business favors.</span></p><p class="editor-p">The Seoul Central District Court will hold the sentencing hearing for Kim, wife of the former president, on charges of violating a law on the acceptance of bribes for mediation, at 2 p.m. Friday, according to judicial sources.</p><p class="editor-p">Kim was indicted in December on allegations that she received more than 100 million won ($65,231) worth of jewelry, including a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace, from the chairman of a construction company between March and May 2022, along with a request for a government position for the businessman's son-in-law.</p><p class="editor-p">She is also suspected of receiving a golden turtle ornament from a former head of the National Education Commission in April 2022 in exchange for an appointment.</p><p class="editor-p">Additional accusations include receiving a Dior bag worth 5.4 million won from a pastor in 2022, a Vacheron Constantin watch from an entrepreneur in 2022, and a painting by a renowned artist from a former prosecutor in February 2023.</p><p class="editor-p">In a trial last month, the special counsel's team sought a 7 1/2-year prison term, arguing that she repeatedly used her status as the president’s spouse for personal gain.</p><p class="editor-p">Kim has pleaded not guilty, contending that while gifts were received, they did not involve any specific requests.</p><p class="editor-p">Separately, an appeals court sentenced Kim to four years in prison in a different corruption case in April.</p>

김씨는 2022년 3월에서 5월 사이 건설업체 회장으로부터 1억 원이 넘는 보석류(반클리프 앤 아펠) 목걸이를 비롯한 선물을 받고, 그 사업가의 사위의 공직임명을 요구한 혐의로 12월에 기소되었다.
그해 4월에는 이배용 전 국가교육위원회 위원장으로부터 황금 거북이 모양 장식을 받아 공직 임명과 관련이 있었다고도 의심된다.
또한 2022년에 디오르 핸드백(5.4백만 원 상당)과 한 기업가로부터 바쉐론 콘스탄틴 시계도 받은 혐의가 있으며, 2023년 2월에는 한 전 검사로부터 이건으로 그림을 받았다는 혐의도 제기되었다.
지난 달 공판에서 특별수사관 민종기 팀은 김씨가 대통령의 배우자라는 지위를 반복적으로 이용해 개인적 이익을 위한 거래를 했다고 주장하며 7년 6개월의 형을 구형했다.
전 부인은 유죄를 부인하며 선물은 받았지만 특정한 요구와 관련이 없다고 주장했다.
4월에 항소법원은 부패 혐의로 진행된 다른 재판에서 김씨에게 징역 4년을 선고했다.
