<p>Ambassadors, business executives and policymakers gathered at The Korea Times Forum on Tuesday to discuss how Korea can leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to expand its global influence and shape the future of innovation, under the theme “Made in Korea: Global and AI Enablement.”</p>
<p>The forum, co-organized by The Korea Times and GR Korea and held at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in central Seoul, brought together diplomatic representatives and industry leaders who emphasized the transformative potential of AI and the importance of international cooperation as Korea seeks to position itself as a global leader in the emerging AI era.</p>
<p>Singaporean Ambassador to Korea Wong Kai Jiun highlighted the timeliness of the event amid the rapid rise of AI, calling it a timely forum given the importance of AI in the economy and society.</p>
<p>Irish Ambassador to Korea Michelle Winthrop stressed that AI adoption will be critical to future economic success, noting that Korea already leads in AI and that learning from Korea could help other countries foster an environment where AI is widely embraced while acknowledging opportunities and risks.</p>
<p>Newly arrived Swiss Ambassador to Korea Nadine Olivieri Lozano described AI as a revolutionary force whose implications are still unfolding, emphasizing the need to understand its impact on society, business, diplomacy and various sectors.</p>
<p>Uzbekistan Ambassador to Korea Alisher Abdusalomov pointed to Korea's growing international reputation as a leader in AI, noting active Korean corporate involvement and government incentives, and expressed a desire to deepen cooperation as Uzbekistan follows a similar transition toward AI-based industries.</p>
<p>Business leaders underscored the significance of focusing on AI-enabled globalization. Alex Kim, general manager of PTC Korea, said the forum addresses not only AI adoption in Korea but also how Korean companies can expand globally through AI and influence the global AI landscape.</p>
<p>Participants suggested Korea is well-positioned to lead discussions on AI governance, standards and partnerships that will shape the AI era, with the potential to drive global competition and set rules in the field.</p>
<p>Seo Gream, director at Kakao Mobility, emphasized acting now given the intensifying global competition in AI, stating that the current moment may be a critical window for Korea to advance in global markets and industries through AI-driven strategies.</p>

우즈베키스탄 대사 알리셔 압두사라모로프는 한국이 AI 분야에서 세계적 리더로 인정받고 있음을 지적하며, 한국 기업들이 이 변화에 적극적으로 참여하고 정부가 글로벌 경쟁력을 높이기 위한 강력한 인센티브를 제공하고 있다고 말했다. 또한 전통 산업에서 AI 기반 산업으로의 전환이 진행 중이며 우즈베키스탄은 한국과의 협력을 심화하기를 희망했다.
PT C Korea의 제너럴 매니저 알렉스 킴은 이 포럼이 AI 기술 자체뿐 아니라 AI를 통한 글로벌화와 현지화를 다룬다는 점에서 특별하다고 언급했다. 한국 기업들이 AI를 활용해 글로벌 영향력을 확장하는 방안을 모색하는 데 이 포럼이 귀중한 통찰을 제공한다고 밝혔다.
카카오 모빌리티의 서 그림 이사는 글로벌 경쟁이 심화되는 상황에서 지금이 기회이며, 한국의 시장과 산업을 위한 글로벌 트렌드를 이해하는 것이 중요하다고 강조했다. 또한 AI를 활용해 한국이 글로벌 혁신 주도국이자 규칙 제정에 기여하는 위치로 도달하는 방안을 모색하는 것이 필요하다고 밝혔다.
룩셈부르크 대사 자크 플리스와 슬로바키아 대사 마렉 레포스키도 포럼의 발표를 경청하는 모습을 보였다. 참석자들은 AI와 세계화에 초점을 맞춘 포럼이 산업과 정책 입안자 간의 대화와 협력을 촉진하는 중요한 계기라고 입을 모았다.
참가자들은 AI가 전 세계 산업과 사회를 재편하는 현 시대에 한국이 대화의 선두에 설 수 있는 위치에 있다고 평가했다. 한국은 혁신가이자 글로벌 규칙, 표준, 협력의 수립에 기여하는 핵심 파트너로서의 역할을 강화해야 한다는 목소리도 나왔다.
