Yonhap</p></div></div><p class="editor-p">Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan urged active reinvestment of profits earned by Korea’s booming semiconductor industry to position the country as a global leader in the artificial intelligence (AI) era.</p><p class="editor-p">His remarks were made in a social media post amid nationwide discussions on how to allocate windfall profits from major semiconductor firms.</p><p class="editor-p">The debate intensified after Samsung Electronics, a leading memory chip maker, faced a labor-management dispute over performance-based bonuses, amid forecasts that operating profit could reach around 300 trillion won this year due to the AI boom.</p><p class="editor-p">Following a wage agreement last week, Samsung decided to allocate a special semiconductor performance bonus amounting to 10.5 percent of business performance earnings, with no cap.</p><p class="editor-p">Kim stated on Facebook that the world is racing to secure AI leadership through substantial investments and that Korea should channel semiconductor profits into productive reinvestment to prepare for the future.</p><p class="editor-p">He stressed that the industry must avoid complacency and continue boosting competitiveness, exploring new growth engines in next-generation semiconductors and the foundry sector, while signaling government support for bold investments, including financial assistance and regulatory reforms.</p><p class="editor-p">In contrast, Labor Minister Kim Young-hoon has advocated a public debate on distributing excess profits from conglomerates to promote shared and sustainable growth for both large firms and their subcontractors.</p>

장관은 소셜 미디어 게시글을 통해 국내 주요 반도체 기업의 이익초과분을 어떻게 공유하거나 활용할지에 대한 논의가 지속되는 가운데 이 같은 메시지를 전했다.
최근 삼성전자의 임금협상을 둘러싼 노사 간 갈등과 함께 회사의 실적이 AI 호조에 힘입어 올해 영업이익이 300조원(약 1995조원 미화)까지 달할 수 있다는 전망이 제기되면서 논의가 촉발됐다.
다년간의 갈등 끝에 노사 양측은 지난주 임금협정을 체결했고, 이에 따라 삼성은 사업실적 이익의 10.5%에 해당하는 특별 반도체 실적 보너스를 한도 없이 배정하기로 결정했다.
세계가 AI 분야의 리더 확보를 위해 시한과 같은 경쟁에 돌입하고 있으며, 반도체를 비롯한 주요 AI 산업에서 국가적 이해관계가 걸린 대규모 투자로 경쟁이 벌어지고 있다고 장관은 페이스북 게시글에서 썼다.
“반도체 산업이 창출한 이익을 미래를 준비하는 생산적 재투자로 전환해야 할 결정적 순간에 와 있다”고 강조했다. 그는 현재의 실적에 안주하지 말고 경쟁력을 더욱 강화하고 차세대 반도체 및 파운드리 부문에서 새로운 성장 동력을 찾아야 한다고 덧붙였다.
또한 “기업 이익의 사용에 있어 최우선 원칙은 생산적 재투자”라는 점을 다시 강조하며, 과감한 투자를 결정하는 기업에 대해 재정 지원과 규제 개혁 등 정부의 지원을 약속했다고 밝혔다.
노동부 장관은 반대로 대기업의 초과 이익의 사회적 배분에 대한 공개 토론을 촉구하며, 이를 통해 대기업과 하청업체 간의 공동 번영적 성장에 기여할 수 있다고 최근 밝혔다.
