Longtime NCT member Mark is leaving the group, just after a major concert run, prompting confusion and strong online reaction.
His exclusive contract with the agency will end on Wednesday, marking his official departure from all NCT activities, including the subunits NCT 127 and NCT Dream.
After his exit, NCT 127 will continue as a seven-member group with Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo and Haechan, while NCT Dream will promote with six members: Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle and Jisung.
Mark addressed fans directly in a handwritten letter shared on his personal account, saying he had discussed the decision with the members, who supported him, and expressing gratitude and a sense of lifelong apology.
He added that he is grateful to the members who shared the journey and that he loves them.
Mark also thanked the agency, saying he would remember his beginnings and would work to become a better version of himself as he embarks on a new chapter.
Debuting in 2016 as part of NCT, Mark became a prominent figure within the group, actively participating across multiple units and earning recognition as a main rapper and dancer, with early attention from SM’s pre-debut team SMROOKIES.
NCT, considered a defining force in K-pop’s third generation, remains active globally, and Mark’s departure is seen as especially impactful given his long tenure and central role.
The timing is notable as NCT recently held six solo concerts at KSPO Dome in Seoul, suggesting Mark’s final performances with the group may have occurred there.
