SK hynix Inc. has begun steps toward listing on the U.S. stock market to improve access to global investors amid its artificial intelligence initiatives, the company said on Wednesday.
The company filed a confidential submission to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission with the aim of listing its American depositary receipts on a U.S. exchange within the year, according to a regulatory filing.
ADRs are securities issued in the U.S. that allow trading of shares in foreign companies, enabling U.S.-based investors to participate without a full listing of common shares.
The exact size, schedule and other details of the process have not been confirmed and will depend largely on market conditions, with the final decision to be made by the SEC.
Industry observers expect the move to broaden the chipmaker’s funding base in overseas markets. The company said it plans another related regulatory filing within six months or earlier if there are updates.
