Unionized workers at Samsung Electronics Co. said Friday they have suspended talks with management three days after resuming negotiations.
Citing management's lack of sincerity, we have decided to break off negotiations and seek a ruling from a local labor arbitration commission,
Choi Seung-ho, who leads the Samsung Electronics unit at the Samsung Group United Union (SGUU), said in a statement.
He said the two sides have failed to reach an agreement on removing a cap on performance-based bonuses.
However, the union hinted at a possible resumption, saying the suspension does not constitute a "breakdown," according to the minutes of Friday's negotiations posted on its website.
The remarks came after three labor unions, including the SGUU and the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU), resumed wage talks on Tuesday.
The unionized workers have been demanding that management remove the cap on bonuses and grant a 7 percent wage increase, along with greater transparency in calculating performance-based bonuses.
Last week, the unions said 93.1 percent of their members voted in favor of staging a strike in May in a vote. The three unions have around 90,000 members.
삼성전자 노조는 금요일 경영진과의 협상을 재개한 지 사흘 만에 협상을 중단했다고 밝혔다. 삼성그룹 노동조합연합( SGUU) 소속 최승호 위원장은 성명에서 “경영진의 성의 부족을 이유로 협상을 중단하고 지역노사조정위원회의 판정을 구하기로 했다”고 말했다. 그는 양측이 성과급 상한선 제거에 합의하지 못했다고 전했다. 다만 노조는 이번 중단이 ‘파열’로 간주되지 않는다는 취지의 발언의 기록이 웹사이트에 게시된 금요일 협상 회의록에 나타나 있다고 암시했다. 이 같은 발언은 SGUU를 포함한 전국 삼성전자노동조합(NSEU) 등 3개 노조가 화요일에 임금 협상을 재개한 직후 나온 것이다. 노조원들은 경영진이 보너스의 상한선을 제거하고 성과급 산정의 투명성을 높이는 한편 7%의 임금 인상을 요구해 왔다. 지난주 노조 측은 회원 중 93.1%가 5월 파업에 찬성하는 투표에서 찬성표를 던졌다고 밝혔다. 삼노조의 회원 수는 약 9만 명이다.
