Kim Yun-ji became the first Korean woman to win a Winter Paralympic gold medal on Sunday.
She captured the women's individual sitting title in para biathlon at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Tesero, northern Italy, finishing the 12.5-kilometer event in 38:00.01, ahead of Germany’s Anja Wicker by 12.8 seconds. The United States’ Kendall Gretsch earned bronze with a time of 38:47.9.
This marked Korea's first Winter Paralympics gold since 2018 and its first at an away Winter Paralympics.
The para biathlon combines cross-country skiing and shooting, with four shooting sessions where five targets are shot each, and each miss adding a minute to the total time. Kim went 5-for-5 on the first shooting stage, missed twice on the next, then hit her remaining 10 shots across the final two sessions.
