The majority of patent applications related to investment-focused artificial intelligence in Korea come from non-listed companies and startups, indicating that venture firms are driving AI adoption in the financial sector.
A report from the Korea Capital Market Institute found that 67 percent of financial investment AI patent filings were submitted by local Software as a Service (SaaS) firms. Among these, 76 percent were intended for sale to other companies, while 14 percent targeted individual consumers.
The patent activity largely centers on AI for standardized tasks, such as consigned trading of financial products, monitoring abnormal trading activity, and stock price analysis. In contrast, AI areas involving non-disclosed information, reliance on human networks like deal sourcing, and high-risk financial activities showed minimal filings.
The report emphasizes that for AI innovation to spread across the entire financial investment industry, active participation from the government and regulatory authorities is necessary.
서울 서부의 여의도 금융단지 / 연합뉴스 한국에서 투자 관련 인공지능(AI) 분야의 특허 출원 중 비상장 기업과 스타트업이 차지하는 비중이 거의 70%에 이른다는 보고가 화요일 발표되며, 벤처기업들이 금융 분야의 AI 변화를 주도하고 있음을 시사했다. 한국자본시장연구원(Korea Capital Market Institute)의 보고서에 따르면, 금융 투자 관련 AI 특허 출원 중 67%가 국내 SaaS(서비스로서의 소프트웨어) 기업에 의해 제기됐다. 이들 중 76%는 타기업이나 비즈니스에 판매될 목적으로 설계된 것이었고, 개인 고객을 겨냥한 것은 14%에 불과했다는 분석이다. 다수의 특허 출원은 표준화된 작업을 대상으로 하는 AI와 관련이 있었으며, 위탁 거래의 자동화, 이상 거래 활동 감시, 주가 분석 등과 연관된 사례가 많았다. 거래 발굴 등 비공개 정보 취급 및 인간 네트워크 의존이 큰 영역과 고액의 금융 리스크가 수반되는 영역은 AI 특허 출원이 미미했다고 보고서는 지적했다. 보고서는 “AI 혁신이 특정 영역에 집중되지 않고 금융 투자 산업 전반에 걸쳐 확산되려면 정부와 규제 당국의 적극적 역할이 필요하다”고 덧붙였다.
