Recent reports from the United States suggested that Kim was in "late-stage negotiations" to join LIV Golf, a tour funded by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia. Since its inception in 2022, LIV Golf has attracted several prominent players from the PGA Tour, including major champions.
Players who participate in LIV Golf are not eligible to compete in the PGA Tour unless they qualify for four major championships. Kim's commitment to the upcoming Sony Open may indicate his decision to remain with the PGA Tour, although he retains the option to join LIV Golf later, as their 2026 season will commence on February 4 in Riyadh.
With four PGA Tour victories, including the recent Sony Open, Kim has also represented the International Team in the last three Presidents Cups. If he were to join LIV Golf, he would be among the most notable Asian players associated with the tour.
