The interest began with a case shared online, where an unused air conditioner had its logo removed and sold for over 700,000 won ($475). The story gained traction following a video posted by a YouTuber known as Ringring Unni on December 11, in which a customer consulted her about a small gold piece removed from the air conditioner.
In the video, the customer explained that a delivery worker had informed her that the logo was made of gold, a claim supported by advertisements at the time of sale. After melting and analyzing the piece, Ringring Unni confirmed that the logo contained approximately 3.75 grams of pure gold, with a purity of 99.3 percent. She purchased the logo for 713,000 won, and the video has since garnered over 1.12 million views.
The gold logo is believed to originate from a limited-edition Whisen air conditioner released in 2005, which was sold to 10,000 customers to celebrate LG's status as the leading global air conditioner seller for five consecutive years. At the time, gold prices were significantly lower, with the customer recalling that it was estimated to be worth about 10,000 won if removed. In contrast, current international gold prices have risen to 763,425 won for the same amount.
Reports of additional sales of Whisen logos have surfaced, including a case where another customer initially doubted the logo's authenticity due to the lack of a certificate. Ringring Unni later purchased this logo for 748,000 won.
Online reactions to the discovery have been varied, with some users describing it as a “total jackpot” and others expressing regret for having discarded similar logos without recognizing their potential value. Many have speculated that the same model may still be found in their parents' homes.

휘센 로고 판매 사례가 추가로 등장했다. 같은 날 업로드된 다른 영상에서 한 고객은 남편이 로고가 금이라고 믿고 금 거래소에 가져갔는데 인증서가 없다며 금으로 보이지 않는다고 했다고 전했다. 그녀는 그 로고를 버릴까 생각했지만, 동영상이 피드에 나타난 후 링링 언니가 748,000원에 구매했다.
