The Kiwoom Heroes announced the signings of their four foreign-born players for the 2026 Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) season on Tuesday.
Returning to the team is right-handed starter Raul Alcantara, who will enter his second season with the Heroes. Joining him in the rotation is right-hander Nathan Wiles. The team has also signed outfielder Trenton Brooks as their new foreign hitter, and Japanese pitcher Yuto Kanakubo to fulfill their Asian player quota.
Beginning in 2026, the KBO will allow each club to sign either an Asian-born or an Australian-born player, in addition to the usual three foreign players from outside Asia.
Alcantara, 33, has agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $900,000, which includes a $700,000 salary and up to $200,000 in incentives. He joined the Heroes in May 2025 as a midseason replacement, finishing the season with an 8-4 record and a 3.27 ERA over 19 appearances.
In the previous 2025 season, the Heroes began with two foreign hitters, Yasiel Puig and Ruben Cardenas, alongside one foreign pitcher, Kenny Rosenberg. Alcantara took over Puig's position on the roster. This will mark Alcantara's sixth season in the KBO, having previously played for the KT Wiz and the Doosan Bears.
Wiles, 27, has signed for $910,000. He made his major league debut this year with the Atlanta Braves, pitching one inning in one game, where he allowed three earned runs. In Triple-A, he posted a 6-8 record with a 3.04 ERA in 25 appearances, including 19 starts. His four-pitch repertoire includes a four-seam fastball, cutter, changeup, and slider.
Brooks will earn a $700,000 salary with the potential for $150,000 in incentives. The 30-year-old American has played 37 major league games, most recently with the San Diego Padres in 2025, where he batted .146 with one home run. In Triple-A, he recorded a .275 average with 15 home runs and 68 RBIs over 90 games. The Heroes indicated that Brooks is versatile, capable of playing first base and all three outfield positions.
Kanakubo signed for $100,000 in salary and $30,000 in incentives. The 26-year-old right-hander has played for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball since 2020, achieving a 4.31 ERA with a 5-4 record over 34 appearances. Known for his four-seam fastball that can reach speeds of 154 kph, Kanakubo's experience in both starting and relief roles is expected to enhance the team's pitching versatility.
The Heroes have experienced challenges in recent seasons, finishing last in the KBO standings for the past three years.
