The Samsung Lions announced on Tuesday that they will retain first baseman Lewin Diaz and starting pitcher Ariel Jurado for the 2026 season.
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) club confirmed that Diaz has re-signed for a total of up to $1.6 million, which includes a signing bonus of $200,000 and a salary of $1.3 million. Additionally, he is eligible to earn another $100,000 in performance incentives.
Jurado has also secured a new contract worth up to $1.7 million, comprising a salary of $1.3 million, a signing bonus of $300,000, and $100,000 in incentives.
Diaz joined the Lions midway through the 2024 season and will be returning for his second full season. In 2025, he achieved a KBO record with 158 RBIs and hit a league-high 50 home runs, marking the most ever by a foreign player in a single season. He also led the league with a .644 slugging percentage and an on-base plus slugging of 1.025, earning his first KBO Fielding Award at first base. Moreover, he was the runner-up in the regular-season MVP voting.
Jurado signed with the Lions prior to the 2025 season after spending two years with another KBO team. He led the KBO with 197 1/3 innings pitched, three complete games, and 23 quality starts, ranking fourth overall with 15 wins and a 2.60 ERA.
Under the new regulations starting in 2026, KBO teams are permitted to have three foreign players, with no more than two being pitchers, along with an additional player from an Asian country or Australia. The Lions concluded the 2025 season with Jurado and another foreign pitcher. They have not yet signed their Asian quota player.

KBO 팀은 각각 3명의 외국 선수를 보유할 수 있으며, 투수는 최대 2명으로 제한된다. 2026 시즌부터는 아시아 국가 또는 호주 출신의 추가 선수를 한 명 더 포함할 수 있다. 라이온즈는 2025 시즌을 후라도와 제르손 가라비토라는 두 외국 투수와 함께 마쳤으며, 아시아 쿼터 선수는 아직 계약하지 않았다.
