A Korean man has been found dead in a large bag in a residential area of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, prompting local authorities to initiate an investigation, according to officials on Monday.
The man's body was discovered on Sunday afternoon after a security guard and passersby reported a strange smell emanating from a big blue bag to local police, as indicated by the Korean consulate general in Ho Chi Minh City and the foreign ministry.
Two men reportedly fled the scene in a taxi as onlookers gathered around the bag.
Vietnamese police have since arrested two Korean nationals who are being investigated as possible suspects in the case.
An official from the consulate stated, "We were informed by Vietnamese police that the deceased was a Korean national. We will contact the family and provide them with consular assistance."
A foreign ministry official in Seoul noted that the consulate general is in close communication with Vietnamese authorities regarding the ongoing investigation.
"As the investigation is ongoing, we cannot provide further details at this stage," the official added.

총영사관 관계자는 "고인이 한국인이라는 사실을 베트남 경찰로부터 통보받았다. 우리는 가족과 연락을 취하고 영사 지원을 제공할 것"이라고 말했다.
서울의 외교부 관계자는 총영사관이 사건과 관련하여 베트남 당국과 긴밀히 소통하고 있다고 언급했다.
관계자는 "수사가 진행 중이므로 현재 이 단계에서 추가적인 세부사항을 제공할 수 없다"고 말했다.
