EXO is moving forward with a six-member comeback while controversy surrounds the potential rejoining of Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin — collectively known as CBX — in future group activities.
Coupang Play’s variety show “Sister Salon” previewed the group’s appearance at the conclusion of its Nov. 23 episode, confirming that Suho, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, Sehun, and Lay will feature in the Nov. 29 broadcast. This lineup represents the current configuration of EXO’s promotions as a six-member group.
The group has previously announced that it is preparing its eighth studio album for release in the first quarter of 2026, noting that only six members will participate, excluding CBX, which is active under independent label INB100.
EXO is scheduled to hold a six-member fan meeting titled “EXO’verse” on Dec. 14 at Inspire Arena in Incheon. This event marks the group's first large-scale fan gathering in nearly a year and eight months since their 12th anniversary event. The meeting will feature popular songs, including the winter classic “First Snow,” alongside performances of new music.
Both shows of the fan meeting sold out during presales, highlighting EXO’s continuing popularity and suggesting a successful pathway for their upcoming comeback. Interest has intensified following news that the members will also appear together on various variety programs.
While Suho, Kai, Chanyeol, and Sehun remain under SM Entertainment, D.O., who operates his own independent label, and Lay, who previously departed to pursue opportunities in China, will also participate. CBX is not included in this lineup.
The three members of CBX filed a lawsuit against SM in 2023, alleging a lack of transparent settlement records and unfair contract enforcement. After negotiations, both parties agreed to maintain exclusive contracts, allowing CBX’s individual activities to be managed by INB100.
Despite this, disputes regarding contract terms continued, leading to CBX losing most of their legal battles. INB100 recently stated that it had accepted all conditions presented by SM, signaling a willingness to settle and wishing for the trio to engage in full group activities.
However, SM clarified that resolving legal disputes and returning to group activities are considered separate issues, asserting that trust between CBX and the other EXO members has deteriorated, making joint promotions currently impossible. The agency emphasized that it would support EXO’s activities as a six-member unit starting in December.
In response, INB100 reiterated its commitment to honor the existing agreement and work towards restoring trust among the members while aiming for an amicable resolution with SM. Nevertheless, the immediate future of EXO is set as a six-member comeback, as fans observe whether the ongoing conflict may diminish leading up to their 2026 return.

SM은 법적 갈등을 해결하는 것과 그룹 활동으로 복귀하는 것은 “별개의 문제”라고 강조하며, CBX와 다른 EXO 멤버들 간의 신뢰가 손상되어 현재로서는 공동 프로모션이 불가능하다고 밝혔다. SM은 “세 멤버가 기존 계약을 우선 이행하고 신뢰를 회복하기 위해 성실히 노력하는 것이 적절했을 것”이라며, “회사가 12월부터 EXO의 여섯 멤버 활동을 전적으로 지원하고 집중할 것”이라고 덧붙였다.
INB100은 세 멤버가 이전 계약을 계속 준수하며, EXO 멤버들과의 신뢰를 회복하고 SM과의 원만한 결과를 위해 “모든 노력을 다할 것”이라고 응답했다. 레이블은 다시 그룹 프로모션에 참여하고자 하는 의사를 표현했지만, EXO의 즉각적인 방향은 여섯 명으로의 컴백이다.
