The Kia Tigers announced on Wednesday the signing of starting pitcher James Naile for his third season in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO).
Naile has agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $2 million, which includes a $200,000 signing bonus and a salary of $1.6 million, an increase from his previous salary of $1.2 million. Additionally, he has the opportunity to earn another $200,000 through performance incentives.
During the 2025 season, Naile made 27 starts, achieving an 8-4 record with a 2.25 ERA, which ranked him second overall in the KBO. He also reached career highs in innings pitched (164 1/3) and strikeouts (152).
In his first season with the Tigers in 2024, Naile led all qualified pitchers with a 2.53 ERA and contributed to the team’s victory in the Korean Series.
Despite improved peripheral statistics in 2025, Naile only secured eight wins, as the Tigers' offense provided an average of 2.37 runs per game, compared to 4.12 runs per game in the previous season. The Tigers concluded the season with a record of 65-75-4, missing the postseason.
Over the last two seasons, Naile holds the best ERA in the KBO at 2.38, with no other qualified pitcher achieving an ERA below 3.00 during that period.
Starting in 2026, KBO teams will be allowed to sign up to two foreign-born pitchers, along with one additional pitcher from an Asian country or Australia. The Tigers concluded the 2025 season with Naile and another American pitcher as their two foreign hurlers.
