KT Wiz outfielder Ahn Hyun-min has been named the best rookie in Korean baseball for the 2025 season, receiving the Rookie of the Year award in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) with a significant majority of votes.
The 22-year-old player secured 110 out of 125 votes cast by media representatives, following a standout season for the Wiz. Hanwha Eagles pitcher Jeong Woo-joo was the runner-up, receiving only five votes.
Ahn led all rookies with a .334 batting average, 22 home runs, 80 RBIs, a .448 on-base percentage, and a .570 slugging percentage. He ranked first overall in on-base percentage, second in batting average, and third in slugging percentage among all players.
He was one of only three players to achieve a .300 batting average, a .400 on-base percentage, and a .500 slugging percentage during the season. Ahn also excelled in advanced metrics, leading the league in wins above replacement with 7.22 and achieving the highest weighted runs created plus at 172.5, which adjusts a player's offensive value based on various factors.
These impressive statistics were recorded in just 112 games, as Ahn had limited playing time in April and only began regular play in May after participating in the Futures League, the KBO's minor league.
In addition to the award, Ahn received 3 million won (approximately $2,040) in prize money. Upon accepting the award at a ceremony in Seoul, Ahn expressed gratitude for the support from his teammates and coaches, stating, "I couldn't have won this award alone. Next year, I will try to win an even bigger prize."
Ahn is the third player in KT Wiz franchise history to win the Rookie of the Year award, following outfielder Kang Baek-ho in 2018 and pitcher So Hyeong-jun in 2020. He is also the first position player to win this award since Kang, as pitchers had dominated the top rookie honors for the past six seasons.
Eligibility for the top rookie award included players who entered the KBO in 2025 or those who had joined the league within the past five years without accumulating 30 innings pitched or 60 plate appearances.
Ahn made his KBO debut last year but only had 29 plate appearances in 16 games.

한화 이글스의 투수 정우주는 5표로 2위에 올랐다.
안현민은 신인 중에서 .334의 타율, 22개의 홈런, 80타점, .448의 출루율, .570의 장타율로 전체 1위를 기록했다. 출루율에서 1위, 타율에서 2위, 장타율 3위를 차지했다.
그는 또한 .300 이상의 타율, .400 이상의 출루율, .500 이상의 장타율을 기록한 3명의 선수 중 한 명이었다.
안현민은 고급 통계에서도 우위를 점했다. 그는 대체 승수에서 7.22로 모든 선수 중 1위를 차지했으며, 선수의 총 공격 가치를 측정하고 공원 및 리그 평균에 따라 성과를 조정하는 발생한 가중 점수(WOPA)에서 172.5로 가장 높은 숫자를 기록했다.
안현민은 이 모든 기록을 112경기에서 달성했으며, 시즌 첫 달인 4월에는 두 경기에서 단 6회 타석에 들어섰고, 마이너 리그인 퓨처스 리그에서의 경험 후 5월부터 정기적으로 경기에 나서기 시작했다.
트로피 외에도 안현민은 300만 원(약 2,040달러)의 상금도 받았다.
안현민은 서울에서 열린 시상식에서 "KT Wiz의 일원으로 이 권위 있는 상을 수상하게 되어 너무 기쁘다. 이 상은 혼자서는 받을 수 없었다. 모든 팀 동료와 코치들이 큰 도움을 주었고, 이 상을 받을 기회를 제공해 주었다. 내년에는 더 큰 상을 받기 위해 노력하겠다"고 말했다.
그는 KT Wiz 역사상 올해의 신인상을 수상한 세 번째 선수로, 2018년 외야수 강백호와 2020년 투수 소형준에 이어 이름을 올렸다. 또한 안현민은 강백호 이후 6년 동안 투수가 신인상을 수상한 것과 달리 처음으로 포지션 선수가 수상한 것이다.
올해의 신인상 후보는 2025년 KBO에 입단하거나 최근 5년 이내에 입단하고 30이닝을 던지지 않거나 60타석에 서지 않은 선수에게 주어졌다.
안현민은 지난해 KBO에 데뷔했지만 16경기에서 단 29타석만 기록했다.
