President Lee Jae Myung met with North Korean defectors who fled to South Korea during the Korean War on Friday, the first day of the extended Chuseok holiday, according to his office.
The meeting was held at the Ganghwa Peace Observatory in Incheon, where Lee expressed sympathy to the families and wished them a warm holiday.
Participants viewed North Korea from a lookout point and took photos together.
The Presidential Office stated that Lee plans to use the weeklong holiday for rest and preparation for upcoming events, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit scheduled for October 31 and November 1 in Gyeongju.
On Sunday, Lee is expected to appear on a television cooking show to showcase his favorite Korean dishes and promote them.
