Korean Air Co., the largest flag carrier in Korea, has entered into a research cooperation agreement with Swedish flight-tracking company Wingbits to support airspace integration research for advanced air mobility (AAM), according to a release from Wingbits.
Signed last month, the agreement allows Korean Air's research and development (R&D) center to access Wingbits' real-time flight tracking data. This access aims to enhance the development and testing of the airline's integrated air traffic control and routing coordination system.
The collaboration is anticipated to strengthen Korean Air's research into AAM and unmanned aircraft technologies, furthering its commitment to positioning Korea as a global leader in aviation innovation.
Wingbits will supply Korean Air with high-quality automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) data, which will cover the Incheon flight region as well as parts of North America and Europe.
Founded in Stockholm in 2023, Wingbits has established one of the fastest-growing encrypted flight tracking networks globally. In its first year, the company has achieved 80 percent global coverage through over 4,500 active stations, tracking approximately 150,000 flights daily across regions including North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa.

지난달에 체결된 이번 협약에 따라 대한항공의 연구개발(R&D) 센터는 윙비츠의 실시간 비행 추적 데이터에 접근할 수 있게 되어 항공사 자체 통합 항공 교통 관제 및 경로 조정 시스템의 개발 및 테스트를 진행할 예정이다.
이 협력은 대한항공이 AAM 및 무인 항공기 기술에 대한 연구를 강화하는 데 기여할 것으로 기대되며, 한국의 항공 혁신 분야에서의 글로벌 리더십을 강화하는 데에 대한 항공사의 의지를 다지는 역할을 할 것이다.
윙비츠는 대한항공에 인천 비행 지역과 북미 및 유럽의 일부 지역을 포함한 고품질 자동 의존 감시 방송(ADS-B) 데이터를 제공할 예정이다.
