SSG Landers starting pitcher Kim Keon-woo set a South Korean baseball postseason record by striking out the first six batters he faced on Saturday.
In his first Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason game, the 23-year-old left-hander struck out the side in both the first and second innings against the Samsung Lions during Game 2 of their first-round series at Incheon SSG Landers Field.
Kim began his performance by striking out Lee Jae-hyeon on a fastball, followed by Kim Seong-yoon who was caught looking at a 0-2 fastball for the second strikeout. He then completed the first inning by striking out Koo Ja-wook on a 3-2 fastball after a six-pitch at-bat.
In the second inning, Kim continued his dominance by striking out Lewin Diaz looking at a fastball. He then struck out Kim Young-woong swinging on a 1-2 slider, and concluded his record-setting performance by getting Kim Hun-gon to miss a 0-2 changeup in the dirt.
The previous record for consecutive strikeouts to start a postseason game was five, set by Keyvius Sampson of the Hanwha Eagles against the Nexen Heroes on October 20, 2018.
Kim Keon-woo received the Game 2 start in place of ace Drew Anderson, who has been dealing with stomach flu. Anderson is scheduled to start Game 3 on Monday at the Lions' home in Daegu.

김건우는 첫 타자 이재현을 빠른 공에 삼진으로 잡았고, 두 번째 타자 김성윤 또한 0-2의 빠른 공에 삼진을 당했다. 이어서 구자욱은 3-2의 빠른 공에 삼진으로 물러났다.
그 후 김건우는 루인 디아스를 빠른 공으로 삼진 처리했고, 김영웅은 1-2의 슬라이더에 헛스윙으로 아웃됐다. 마지막으로 김건우는 김훈곤을 0-2의 바닥 변화구에 삼진으로 돌려세우며 기록을 세웠다.
이전 기록은 2018년 10월 20일 한화 이글스의 키비우스 샘슨이 넥센 히어로즈를 상대로 세운 다섯 연속 삼진이었다.
김건우는 에이스 드류 앤더슨이 위장병으로 고생하고 있는 가운데 2게임에서 선발로 나섰다. 앤더슨은 예정대로 월요일 대구에서 열리는 3게임에 선발 투수로 나설 예정이다.
