SSG Landers manager Lee Sung-yong announced on Saturday that pitcher Drew Anderson is nearing full recovery after experiencing stomach flu.
Lee indicated that Anderson would be prepared to pitch on Sunday if the scheduled Game 2 of the first-round series in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) against the Samsung Lions is postponed due to rain.
This season, Anderson ranked second in the KBO with 245 strikeouts and third with a 2.25 ERA. He was unable to start the opening game of the best-of-five series on Thursday due to stomach issues earlier in the week.
"He had a pretty good bullpen session yesterday, and I've been told he's in good form now," Lee stated during a media session at Incheon SSG Landers Field, located about 30 kilometers west of Seoul. "He has lost about 3 kilograms because he hasn't been eating well."
The KBO postseason schedule has been disrupted by weather conditions. Game 2 was already rescheduled from Friday to Saturday, and the game is expected to take place under threatening skies. If it occurs as planned, Anderson will start Game 3 on Monday in Daegu.
Despite being the higher seed at No. 3, the Landers lost the opening game 5-2, with Mitch White, who replaced Anderson, allowing six hits, including a home run, and three walks in just two innings.
Lee downplayed the loss, expressing confidence in his team's ability to recover: "During the regular season, we always handled adversity really well. I am confident our players will bounce back today."
Lions manager Park Jin-man, after securing a win on the road, stated he would utilize all available bullpen arms if necessary to pursue a second consecutive victory.
"Since this is a short series, we will have all of our relievers ready at the first sign of trouble from our starter (Gerson Garabito)," Park noted. "We had the extra day off yesterday, and so our bullpen guys should all be good to go."
Park also mentioned that he is not focused on any potential mind games regarding Anderson's status. "We figured we would have to face him at some point in this series," he said. "We got off to a good start here, and we just have to focus on doing our own thing."

자연의 영향으로 KBO 포스트시즌 일정이 엉망이 되었다. 2차전은 원래 금요일에서 토요일로 연기되었고, 토요일 경기는 천둥 번개에 휘말릴 것으로 예상된다. 일정대로 진행된다면 앤더슨은 월요일 대구에서 열리는 3차전에 선발로 나설 예정이다.
랜더스는 높은 시드 3위에도 불구하고 개막전에서 5-2로 패배했으며, 앤더슨 대신 선발로 나선 미치 화이트는 2이닝에서 6개의 안타, 홈런 1개, 3개의 볼넷을 내주었다.
이 감독은 패배에 대해 개의치 않으며 "정규 시즌 동안 우리는 항상 역경을 잘 극복했다. 오늘 선수들이 다시 일어설 것이라고 확신한다"고 말했다.
라이온즈의 박진만 감독은 원정에서 승리를 따낸 후, 두 번째 연속 승리를 노릴 기회가 온다면 불펜을 아끼지 않겠다고 밝혔다.
박 감독은 "짧은 시리즈이기 때문에 선발 투수(헤르손 가라비토)가 위기 신호를 보이면 모든 불펜 투수를 준비시킬 것"이라고 말했다. "어제 휴식일이 있었기 때문에 우리 불펜 투수들은 모두 준비가 되어 있어야 한다."
박 감독은 또한 앤더슨의 상태에 대해 랜더스가 심리전을 벌이려는 것에 크게 신경 쓰지 않는다고 덧붙였다.
"어차피 우리는 시리즈의 어느 시점에서 그를 상대해야 할 것으로 생각했다"며 "우리는 좋은 출발을 했고, 이제는 우리의 할 일을 하는 데 집중해야 한다"고 말했다.
