The NC Dinos announced on Tuesday that their All-Star catcher, Kim Hyung-jun, will miss the remainder of the South Korean baseball postseason due to a broken hand.
Dinos manager Lee Ho-joon provided the update before the second wild card game of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) postseason against the Samsung Lions at Daegu Samsung Lions Park, located 235 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
The fifth-seeded Dinos secured an upset victory over the No. 4 seed Samsung Lions, winning 4-1 on Monday, with Kim hitting a solo home run. However, he was removed from the game in the following half inning due to pain in his left hand. Imaging revealed that Kim sustained a broken hamate bone in his left hand.
Despite Kim's absence, the Dinos will advance to the next round of the postseason if they achieve another victory on Tuesday, according to Lee.
The Dinos entered this series with only two catchers, and Kim Jeong-ho, who has limited experience with just eight regular-season games, is the backup for Kim Hyung-jun. If Kim Jeong-ho were to sustain an injury during Tuesday's game, Lee indicated that outfielder Kwon Hui-dong or infielder Kim Whee-jip might need to take on catching responsibilities.
The Dinos are hopeful of adding a catcher to their roster for the next series, should they progress.
"Hyung-jun already felt some pain before hitting his home run, yet he still managed to hit the ball out of the park," Lee stated. "His hand will be in a cast, and he won't be able to play in the next series even if we get there."
Lee, in his first season as manager, expressed his emotions regarding the Dinos' journey thus far. "It's been such a tough road to get this far, and I can't even tell the guys to play hard because I know how difficult it has already been for them," he said, visibly emotional. "I feel really bad and at the same time, I am so grateful that those guys are putting the team ahead of their well-being. If we can build on this, we will be an even scarier team next year."

다이노스는 다음 시리즈에 진출할 경우 추가 포수를 로스터에 추가할 수 있기를 희망하고 있다.
이 감독은 "형준은 홈런을 치기 전에도 통증을 느꼈지만 그럼에도 불구하고 공을 날려보냈다"며 "그의 손은 부목을 차게 될 것이고, 우리가 다음 시리즈에 진출하더라도 그는 출전할 수 없다"고 말했다.
이 감독은 첫 시즌 매니저로서 다이노스의 여정을 이야기하며 감정적으로 변했다.
