Prosecutors on Wednesday demanded the death penalty for a man charged with killing two brothers and attempting to kill two others earlier this year.
Cha Cheol-nam, a 56-year-old Chinese national of Korean ethnicity, is charged with the murder of the brothers, who share the same Chinese Korean background, in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, on May 17.
He is also charged with the attempted murders of a convenience store owner and his landlord in separate incidents two days later, during which he stabbed them, causing serious injuries.
Prosecutors sought the death penalty during Cha's trial at the Suwon District Court's Ansan branch, arguing that he had made thorough preparations to commit the crime.
Cha admitted to the murder charges but disputed the attempted murder charges, claiming he had no intentions to kill the victims he stabbed.
During earlier questioning by investigation agencies, Cha reportedly stated that he committed the crime out of anger after the brothers failed to repay him a loan.
The court is scheduled to hold Cha's sentencing hearing on Nov. 12.

검찰은 수원지방법원 안산지법에서 진행된 차의 재판에서 그가 범행을 저지르기 위해 철저한 준비를 했다고 주장하면서 사형을 구형했다.
차는 살인 혐의는 인정했지만, 살인 미수 혐의에 대해서는 찔렀던 피해자를 죽일 의도가 없었다고 반박했다.
조사 기관의 이전 질문에서는 차가 형들이 자신에게 빚을 갚지 않았다는 분노로 범행을 저질렀다고 주장한 바 있다.
법원은 차의 선고공판을 11월 12일로 정했다.
