The Landers will have home-field advantage, hosting Games 1, 2, and, if necessary, Game 5 of the best-of-five series. The Lions will host Game 3 and, if needed, Game 4 at Daegu Samsung Lions Park in Daegu, located about 235 kilometers southeast of the capital.
This marks the first postseason meeting between the two teams since the 2012 Korean Series, when the Landers were known as the SK Wyverns under different ownership. Their previous encounters included three consecutive championships, with the Wyverns winning in 2010, the Lions claiming victory in 2011, and the Lions again in 2012.
Two key players from those series, starter Kim Kwang-hyun and third baseman Choi Jeong, remain with the franchise, while the current manager of the Lions, Park Jin-man, played for the Lions in 2010 and for the Wyverns in the subsequent series.
This season, the Lions took the season series 8-7-1 against the Landers. First baseman Lewin Diaz led the KBO with 50 home runs and hit five homers against the Landers, the highest for any Lions player this year. Veteran catcher Kang Min-ho posted a batting line of .362/.413/.517 in 16 games against SSG.
Choi Won-tae is slated to start Game 1 for the Lions after a strong regular-season performance against the Landers, with a 3.18 ERA over five games. However, he was placed on the inactive list following a shaky start in the wild card round. Choi has an 11.16 ERA in 18 career postseason appearances.
Left-hander Lee Seung-hyun, who has performed well this season against the Landers, may start Game 2. For the Landers, outfielder Guillermo Heredia achieved significant success against the Lions with a .378 batting average and six doubles.
Half-Korean right-hander Mitch White will start Game 1 for the Landers, having a 3.92 ERA in four regular-season starts against the Lions. Drew Anderson is expected to start Game 2, holding a 2.08 ERA in two previous starts against the Lions.
The Landers led the KBO with the top bullpen performance during the regular season, featuring a 3.36 ERA and 502 strikeouts. Setup man Lee Ro-un achieved a career-best 1.99 ERA, while closer Jo Byeong-hyeon set personal records with 30 saves and a 1.60 ERA.
In contrast, the Lions must improve their offensive performance after recording just six hits in the wild card phase, including a record-low total during their postseason win, and striking out 11 times.
