The LG Twins announced on Wednesday the acquisition of infielder Cheon Seong-ho and catcher Kim Jun-tae in a trade with the KT Wiz, sending reliever Lim Jun-hyeong in return. The trade discussions were initiated by the Twins, who were looking for an additional bat, while the Wiz sought a left-handed pitcher for their bullpen.
Cheon, 27, has had a mixed performance, batting .209 in 31 games with seven RBIs, but has shown promise with a .396 batting average in 15 games in the Futures League, the KBO's minor league. He previously won the batting title in the Southern League of the Futures League in 2023 and had a strong start last season before struggling later on.
The Twins expressed optimism about Cheon's potential, stating, "Cheon Seong-ho is a capable hitter who can also run the bases. He's been swinging the bat well in the minors, and he can jump right back into KBO action." They anticipate he will compete for playing time against younger players on the team.
In acquiring Kim, who is 30 years old, the Twins have bolstered their catching options.
