SK Telecom is collaborating with local artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor startup Rebellions to incorporate its neural processing unit (NPU) into essential AI services, marking a significant advancement in establishing a self-sufficient AI ecosystem in Korea.
The partnership was announced on Wednesday, with SK Telecom beginning tests on Rebellions’ data center AI chip, ATOM, across various services, including its AI agent A.
The two companies are currently evaluating servers equipped with Rebellions’ ATOM chip for several applications, such as AI-powered call summarization with A., spam filtering and financial assistance on the PASS platform, and the veterinary X-ray image diagnosis service, X Caliber.
Based on the testing results, they plan to launch ATOM-Max, an upgraded version of the chip intended for large-scale AI inference, for commercial use within this year.
Additionally, SK Telecom intends to progressively expand its use of Rebellions’ NPU servers in accordance with the outcomes of the tests.
Both companies highlighted the importance of this collaboration in testing Rebellions’ AI chip for SK Telecom’s services.

회사는 수요일에 리벨리온스의 데이터 센터 AI 칩인 ATOM을 AI 에이전트 A를 포함한 여러 서비스에서 테스트하고 있다고 발표했다. 두 회사는 현재 SK텔레콤의 여러 서비스에서 리벨리온스의 데이터 센터 AI 칩인 ATOM이 장착된 서버를 테스트하고 있으며, 여기에는 AI 기반의 통화 요약, 스팸 필터링 및 PASS의 금융 보조 기능, 수의학 X선 이미지 진단 서비스인 X Caliber가 포함된다.
테스트 결과를 바탕으로, 이들은 대규모 AI 추론을 위해 설계된 칩인 ATOM-Max의 상용화를 올해 안에 이들 서비스에 도입할 계획이다. SK텔레콤은 또한 테스트 결과에 따라 리벨리온스의 NPU 서버 채택을 점진적으로 확대할 예정이다.
