The ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) and the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) reached an agreement on Tuesday to convene a parliamentary plenary session this week.
This decision was made during a meeting led by National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, which included the DPK's acting leader and floor leader Kim Byung-kee, as well as PPP floor leader Song Eon-seog.
During the upcoming session on Thursday, a resolution will be adopted to honor the late former U.S. Congressman Charles Rangel, as announced by DPK floor spokesperson Kim Hyung-jung. Rangel, who passed away on May 26, was recognized for his service during the Korean War and his long-standing efforts to enhance the alliance between Korea and the United States.
Additionally, Woo emphasized the need for bipartisan cooperation to address the five vacant chair positions on standing committees, including the Legislation and Judiciary Committee.
더불어민주당과 국민의힘은 화요일에 이번 주 국회 본회의를 개최하기로 합의했다고 발표했다. 이 합의는 우원식 국회의장이 주재한 회의에서 이루어졌으며, 더불어민주당 비상대책위원장 김병기와 국민의힘 원내대표 송언석이 참석했다.
김형중 더불어민주당 원내대변인은 기자들에게 금요일 본회의에서 고 찰스 랜걸 전 미국 하원의원을 기리는 결의안이 채택될 것이라고 밝혔다. 랜걸은 한국 전쟁 중의 공로와 한국과 미국 간의 동맹 강화를 위한 오랜 노력을 인정받아 최근 5월 26일에 별세했다.
회의 중 우 의장은 법제사법위원회를 포함한 5개의 공석인 상임위원장직을 채우기 위해 초당적인 협력을 촉구했다.
