Korean free agent pitcher Go Woo-suk is reportedly close to finalizing a new minor league contract in the United States following his recent release. Sources indicate that he is nearing a deal with the Toledo Mud Hens, the Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.
Go, 26, was released by the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, after posting a 1.59 ERA over 5 2/3 innings across five appearances. He initially signed with the San Diego Padres in January 2024 after spending seven seasons with the LG Twins in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO).
Despite being recognized as one of the top closers in the KBO, Go did not make an appearance in a major league game for the Padres, who kept him in the minors before trading him to the Marlins in May 2024. His time with the Marlins was also brief, as he was designated for assignment shortly after the trade.
This year, Go was a non-roster invitee to the Marlins' spring training but suffered a broken finger, which hindered his chances of securing a spot on the roster.
