Kim Pan-gon, head coach of the three-time defending K League 1 champions Ulsan HD FC, has been appointed to lead the South Korean league's All-Star squad against Newcastle United in an upcoming exhibition match.
The Korea Professional Football League (K League) announced on Friday that Kim will serve as head coach for Team K League in the match scheduled for 8 p.m. on July 30 at Suwon World Cup Stadium, located just south of Seoul.
This event marks the first match of this year's Coupang Play Series, an annual series that invites European clubs for preseason matches in South Korea.
Following this match, Newcastle United will face Tottenham Hotspur, captained by South Korean superstar Son Heung-min, at 8 p.m. on August 3 at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Kim Pan-gon successfully led Ulsan to their third consecutive title in 2024 after taking over the team in July, guiding them from fourth place to the top of the league standings.
Lee Jung-hyo, head coach of Gwangju FC, will assist Kim during the match against Newcastle.
The K League has announced that fan voting will determine the starting lineup, which will consist of 11 players along with one young player under the age of 23.

김 감독은 지난 7월 홍명보 감독을 대신해 울산을 맡아 팀을 4위에서 최상위로 이끌며 2024년 K리그 1의 세 번째 연속 우승을 달성했다.
광주FC의 이정효 감독이 뉴캐슬과의 경기에서 김 감독의 보좌역을 맡게 된다.
K리그는 팬 투표를 통해 11명의 선발 선수와 1명의 유망 선수를 결정할 것이라고 밝혔다.
