KBS’ new fantasy romance drama "The First Night With the Duke" is set to premiere on Wednesday, amid ongoing controversy regarding damage inflicted on a cultural heritage site during filming.
Based on a popular web novel and webtoon, the series has generated significant anticipation among drama enthusiasts, particularly due to its cast that includes well-known second-generation K-pop idols-turned-actors, Seohyun and Ok Taec-yeon.
The storyline follows an ordinary college student whose soul is transported into a background character in her favorite romance novel. This unexpected journey leads her to spend a night with the novel's obsessive male lead, ultimately resulting in a romance that diverges from the original narrative.
Seohyun portrays Cha Sun-chaek, the student-turned-minor character, whose name translates to "the next best thing" in Korean. Ok Taec-yeon plays the role of Yi Beon, the male lead, who is depicted as a royal figure in a fictional historical Korea.
Despite the excitement surrounding the drama, it faced backlash when the production team reportedly drove nails into the Mandaeru Pavilion at Byeongsanseowon, raising concerns about the preservation of cultural heritage.
