A narrow vote on whether to ban dog walking in a residential complex has sparked heated debate among residents in Yesan, South Chungcheong Province, highlighting growing tensions over pet etiquette in shared living spaces.
According to reports, a sign recently appeared in an elevator at an apartment complex in Yesan, notifying residents of a vote on a proposed ban on walking dogs in the complex’s ground-level park. The notice, issued by the residents’ representative council, invited all residents to participate in an electronic vote held over two days, June 10 and 11.
The proposal emerged amid complaints from some residents about dog owners failing to clean up after their pets. Supporters of the ban argued that repeated issues with dog waste and leash violations left no choice but to impose restrictions. One resident in favor stated, “If owners had simply leashed their pets properly and cleaned up after them, we wouldn’t be discussing a ban.”
Opponents, however, criticized the proposal as excessive, suggesting that the problem could be resolved through better enforcement and communication rather than an outright ban.

이 제안은 일부 주민들이 반려견 소유자들이 애완동물 배변을 치우지 않는 것에 대한 불만을 제기함에 따라 등장했다. 개 산책 금지를 지지하는 이들은 개 배설물 및 입마개 미착용과 같은 반복적인 문제로 인해 규제가 불가피하다고 주장했다. “주인들이 애완동물을 제대로 목줄에 묶고 배변을 치웠다면 우리는 금지에 대해 논의하지 않았을 것”이라고 찬성하는 한 주민이 말했다.
반면에 반대하는 주민들은 이 제안이 지나치다고 비판하며, 문제가 보다 나은 단속과 소통을 통해 해결될 수 있다고 말했다.
