Korea is poised to finalize a deal valued at approximately $6 billion for the export of additional K2 tanks to Poland later this month, according to government sources.
This agreement, anticipated to be signed in late June, will involve the delivery of 180 K2 tanks to Poland. Of these, 117 units will be manufactured by the Korean defense contractor Hyundai Rotem, while the remaining tanks will be produced locally by Poland's state-owned PGZ.
A defense industry official has confirmed that the signing ceremony is scheduled to take place in Poland later this month. The contract, initially expected to be signed late last year, was delayed due to domestic issues in both countries, including political turmoil in Korea related to a brief declaration of martial law in December.
With these obstacles now resolved, the two nations are set to proceed with the deal, which follows an initial agreement made in 2022 for the supply of 1,000 K2 tanks to Poland. Hyundai Rotem had previously signed a contract worth approximately 4.5 trillion won ($3.3 billion) in 2022 to supply the first batch of tanks.

이번 계약에서는 폴란드가 180대의 K2 전차를 수령하며, 이 중 117대는 한국 방산업체인 현대 로템이 생산하고 나머지는 바르샤바의 국영 PGZ에서 현지 조립될 예정이다.
국방산업 관계자는 이번 계약이 확정되었음을 확인하며, 서명식이 이달 말 폴란드에서 진행될 것이라고 전했다. 이 계약은 작년 말 체결될 것으로 예상되었으나, 한국의 단기 계엄령 선언으로 인한 정치적 혼란 등 양국의 내적 문제로 인해 연기되었다.
현재 이러한 장애물들이 해소되면서, 양국은 2022년에 폴란드에 K2 전차 1,000대를 공급하기 위한 초기 협약을 이어가기 위해 계약을 체결할 것으로 예상된다. 현대 로템은 그 해 말에는 한국에 첫 번째 K2 전차를 공급하기 위해 약 4.5조 원(33억 달러) 규모의 계약을 체결한 바 있다.
