The Army has launched an investigation into a misplaced rifle found in a civilian rental car, which was used three days prior by troops, officials reported on Tuesday.
According to details, an Army non-commissioned officer from an unspecified southeastern unit drove the rental vehicle to ferry a new recruit, who had just completed boot camp, to his new base. The recruit inadvertently left his rifle in the car upon arrival, and the non-commissioned officer was unaware of it when returning the vehicle.
The situation came to light on Sunday when police were notified about a rifle located inside the rental car. The gun has since been recovered by officials. In response, Army investigators plan to assess the unit's overall management of firearms.
The defense ministry indicated that it will consider additional disciplinary measures if deemed necessary. "There have recently been a number of incidents regarding troop discipline, and we intend to examine this closely as part of maintaining military order," a ministry official stated.
