Korea's top skating official has been appointed as the chief delegate for the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC) announced on Monday that Lee Soo-kyung, president of the Korea Skating Union (KSU), will serve as Korea's chef de mission for the upcoming Winter Games, scheduled to take place from February 6 to 22 in Milano and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
At 42 years old, Lee will be the first female to hold this position for Korea at an Olympics. The KSOC highlighted her significant contributions to the development of sports both domestically and internationally, her credentials as an international judge, and her leadership experience in competition and administration.
A former figure skater and judge, Lee assumed the presidency of the KSU in February of this year. She has also served on the KSOC's board of directors and was recently elected as the head of the Korean association of Olympic winter sports.
In a statement, Lee expressed her commitment to supporting athletes, stating, "I will try to offer my best support for our athletes so that they can all compete to the best of their abilities and do so with a sense of pride."
