South Korean civil servants who lured a colleague into a fraudulent scheme involving a woman posing as a sexual assault victim have lost their appeal and will serve prison sentences of up to six years. The Suwon High Court’s Criminal Division 3, led by Chief Judge Kim Jong-gi, upheld the original sentence for the public official, referred to as A, and his accomplice B.
In the initial trial conducted in February, A received a six-year prison term, while B was sentenced to two years. The appeals court stated, “This case involved the exploitation of criminal justice procedures for financial gain and displays extremely poor moral character.” The court noted that Defendant A showed no genuine effort to compensate the victim and continued to deny the charges with improbable excuses.
Although B reportedly repaid part of the extorted amount, the court determined that it was insufficient to justify a reduced sentence considering the overall scale of the fraud. The court's findings revealed that between 2012 and 2013, A and B had targeted a senior colleague in their scheme.

1심에서 A는 6년형을 선고받았고, B는 2년형을 선고받았다.
항소법원은 "이 사건은 금전적 이득을 위한 형사 사법 절차의 악용을 포함하며 도덕적으로 극히 부정적인 성격을 드러낸다"고 밝혔다.
"피고인 A는 피해자를 보상할 진정한 노력을 보이지 않았고, 용서받지 못한 상황에서도 있을 수 없는 변명으로 혐의를 부인하고 있다."
B는 일부 금액을 환불했지만, 법원은 사기의 전체 규모를 감안할 때 형량을 경감할 충분한 이유가 되지 않는다고 판단했다.
법원에 따르면, 2012년과 2013년 사이에 A와 B는 한 선배 동료를 불러들였다.
