LS Group signed a partnership agreement on Friday with a state-run company in Bhutan to develop a power grid network for a new smart city project in the country.
LS Corp. President and CEO Myung Roe-hyun met with Gelephu Investment and Development Corp. (GIDC) CEO Ujjwal Deep Dahal at the Korean company’s office in Seoul for the signing.
The agreement includes the establishment of a local subsidiary, LS GIDC, in Bhutan to manage the project. LS Group will construct power distribution facilities in Gelephu, which will encompass transformers, energy storage systems, and cables for electricity and communication—essential infrastructure for the smart city initiative.
GIDC aims to implement smart city infrastructure across a region of 2,500 square kilometers. The company plans to complete the construction of an international airport by 2029 and to operate power generation facilities utilizing hydro and other renewable energy sources.
The electricity generated will cater to the energy requirements of AI-based businesses and data centers anticipated to be established in the area.

계약에 따라 LS는 게레푸에 변압기, 에너지 저장 시스템 및 전기 및 통신용 케이블을 포함한 전력 배급 시설을 구축할 예정이다. 이는 스마트 시티 프로젝트의 핵심 인프라 구성 요소이다.
GIDC는 2,500 평방킬로미터를 아우르는 지역에 스마트 시티 인프라를 설치할 계획이다.
회사는 2029년까지 국제공항 건설을 완료하고 수력 및 기타 재생 가능 에너지원 기반의 발전 시설을 운영할 예정이다.
생산된 전기는 AI 기반의 비즈니스와 데이터 센터의 에너지 수요를 지원할 예정이다.
