The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) has urged the Seoul High Court to delay the review of a verdict concerning its presidential candidate, Lee Jae-myung, until after the June 3 election. The party described the situation as a potential "judiciary coup" and expressed its commitment to using all available powers to prevent it.
This appeal follows the Supreme Court's recent decision to overturn a prior acquittal by the high court in an Election Law violation case involving Lee, which has now been sent back for review. The first hearing for this review trial is scheduled for May 15.
During a press conference, Rep. Yun Ho-jung, a senior official within the DPK's election committee, stated that if the high court does not agree to postpone the trial by May 12, the party would take actions to obstruct what they perceive as a judicial overreach. May 12 marks the beginning of official campaigning for the upcoming presidential election.
Yun emphasized the party's determination to block the high court's trial proceedings, asserting their intent to leverage legislative powers granted by the electorate.

이런 발언은 대법원이 이 후보와 관련된 선거법 위반 사건에 대한 고등법원의 무죄 판결을 뒤집고 사건을 고등법원으로 회송한 지 하루 뒤에 나왔다.
검토 재판의 첫 번째 청문회는 5월 15일에 예정되어 있다. 더불어민주당 선거대책위원회 고위 관계자인 윤호중 의원은 기자회견에서 "고등법원이 5월 12일까지 재판 연기를 결정하지 않으면, 우리는 입법부에 부여된 모든 권한을 사용해 사법 쿠데타를 저지할 것"이라고 말했다.
5월 12일은 6월 대선의 공식 선거운동이 시작되는 날이다. 그는 "우리는 고등법원의 재판 절차를 막겠다는 의지를 분명히 표현한다"고 덧붙였다.
